OTTERY got a horticultural helping hand from its youngsters on Tuesday as Brownies, Guides and Rainbow Playgroup children got their hands dirty in the town's bid for South West in Bloom glory.

Children's efforts came as a boost to Ottery in Bloom members who are hoping to impress regional judges in July.

Brownies got busy planting flower beds near Claremont field and Tip Hill, while the 1st Ottery Guides (pictured) spruced up planters in Canaan Way.

Earlier in the day Rainbows Playgroup tots (also pictured) gave containers near the town's library a makeover.

Last week Otter Rotters donated compost to fill planters throughout the town.

Ottery in Bloom chairman Sarah Clarke hopes residents will keep the new flowers healthy by watering them. She said: "We are thankful to everyone that has helped and hope the community will continue to pull together to show Ottery in its best light.
