Amazing A-level results at The King’s School in Ottery St Mary

Hardworking sixth formers at The King’s School are celebrating ‘amazing’ A-level results.

Many students came in knowing they had secured their place at university, but were delighted at achieving high marks.

Despite tougher exams, 75 per cent of all grades were A* - C, including 30 per cent achieving A*s and As.

Headteacher Rob Gammon praised the students’ dedication, the quality of teaching and parental support that achieved ‘outstanding’ results.

He said: “We’re delighted that so many of our students have been successful and these results will now allow them to move on to the next step in their education or on to employment. As well as celebrating academic outcomes, we also celebrate personal development and growth. We are very proud of the contribution that this year group has made to the school community over the past two years and, for so many of the students, during their seven years at the school. These students are a credit to themselves and their families and we wish them all the very best as they go on to the next chapter of their lives. It is a really great occasion to celebrate this morning.”

Among the results, 12 pupils received a clean-sweep of As and A*s, with five of those receiving all A* grades.

Eleanor Sheridan is one of two students who has secured an Oxbridge place and will be heading to Cambridge to study natural sciences after landing A*s in chemistry, biology, maths and her extended project.

Matthew Derham was a little stunned to find out he had achieved A* grades in maths, further maths, chemistry and his extended project to secure his place at Bath. He said: “I was surprised; I didn’t know what I was looking at. I did not expect anything like this.”

Sam Cortinhas, James Truscott and Dulcie Grierson also achieved a full set of A*s. James and Sam are heading to Bath to study maths and Dulcie is going to University College London to read European social and political studies respectively.

Phoebe Michael was delighted with gaining a place at Warwick to study psychology. She said; “I was extremely nervous this morning, but once I looked at UCAS’s website and found I had got into the university I wanted to get into, I was so relieved.”

Melissa Johnson achieved three A*s and an A grade and Nathalie Wright an A and two Bs..
