PROUD Branscombe residents can now decorate their home with paint named after the beautiful village.

Exeter-based company Nutshell Natural Paint, owned by Topsham husband and wife Alan and Jane Back, has launched a new range of paints called the Devon collection.

The colours available are named after some of the county's top beauty spots - including Branscombe, Topsham and Budleigh Salterton.

The Devon-themed paints will be available nationwide and across Ireland, and also at outlets in Europe and Canada.

The environmentally-friendly company offers eco-friendly paint.

The business produces wood finishes and paints made with natural materials, such as plant oils, resins and minerals.

Mrs Back said Nutshell's products are emission-free, virtually odourless and also biodegradable.

She said: "Nutshell's approach is radical as it takes a holistic view of all the issues involved in production, including sourcing the necessary materials, manufacture, application and disposal.

"Basically the whole life span of the product, including packaging, is completely ecological.

"Any unused paints can even be composted."

The Topsham couple bought the company two years ago and moved the whole operation from South Brent to Exeter's Matford Business Park.

Mrs Back said the company had been set up in the 1980s by artist Eillia Golhahn.

Nutshell produces 96 colours of paint and uses traditional methods of hand mixing all the ingredients - and sticking on the recycled labels by hand.

The company has been nominated for a number of prestigious eco-awards, such as The South West C+ Carbon Positive Awards 2008, and is an official recommended product by the Soil Association and eco-friendly group Friends of The Earth.

The company's products have also appeared on reality TV programmes such as Grand Designs.
