DOUBLE yellow lines will be extended along Woolbrook Road, Sidmouth, to prevent obstructive parking near St Nicholas Junior School.

DOUBLE yellow lines will be extended along Woolbrook Road, Sidmouth, to prevent obstructive parking near St Nicholas Junior School.

Members of Devon County Council's East Devon Highways and Traffic Orders Committee (HATOC), approved a traffic order on Tuesday.

Two objectors withdrew after it was agreed to compromise by reducing the length of the lines to allow some residential parking.

Tony Matthews, DCC's area engineer (east) reported daytime parking restrictions were needed "to give better visibility for the school crossing patrol that operates from the school and to also improve road safety near the school and up to the access to the Church of St Francis of Assisi."

DCC area traffic engineer Paul Wilson told the committee: "There are serious obstructive parking and road safety issues. Some vehicles obstruct refuse vehicles and stop residents getting access.
