MUSICAL students from Sidmouth and Ottery will be going head-to-head in the last stage of a battle of the bands competition this weekend.
As reported in the Herald performers from Sidmouth College and The King's School competed in two separate contests over the last few months.
The winners were chosen by a panel of judges and the four bands, two from each school, will battle it out at the 'party in the park' Christian concert in Connaught Gardens tomorrow (Saturday).
The concert has been arranged to celebrate the 1,100 anniversary of the diocese of Exeter.
Besides crowning one of the bands the overall winner of the competition, the concert will also feature appearances by several other professional bands.
Reverend Dave Brown, organiser of the concert, said: "The concert will include a whole variety of bands from across the South West. We even have one band flying in from the United States as part of a cultural exchange programme."
The event will also feature interviews of members of the bands as well as Bishop Bob Evens of Crediton, who will be the guest of honour.
Around 400 people are expected to turn up to the six hour music event and Reverend Brown is hoping to attract a lot of young people.
He added: "It is marketed as a youth event but people of all ages are most welcome."
Prizes will be given out and the Clock Tower Café at Jacob's Ladder will be open throughout the concert for refreshments.
The event will take place from 4pm-10pm.
