Sidford and Sidbury sites mentioned in report

A REPORT on Sidmouth’s car parks also reveals that the town’s free-to-use Temple Street site could generate nearly £4,000-a-year, but imposing charges could see shoppers park in the road and cause traffic problems.

The brief states that Sidmouth Town Council has asked for Sidford’s 52-space pay-and-display Church Street car park to be made free of charge – or for it to have dedicated spaces for the nearby medical practice and residents.

EDDC chiefs say that implementing charges at the currently free-to-use Manor Estate Yard facility in Sidbury would lead to an increase in roadside parking. The district council has suggested Sidmouth’s York Street Car Park could be offered for sale on the open market as an investment property.

The report describes how town councillors have told the district authority they are keen to champion a park and ride scheme for the town.

Mill Street, Northcott, Roxburgh and Manor Road sites are also discussed.

District council bosses say that revenue from its car parks across the district totals £3.2million a-year, but a third of that is spent on maintenance.
