THE first in a series of art exhibitions kicked off at Pecorama in Beer on Monday. With a focus on prints and sculpture, the first week featured 30 prints provided by the Brook Gallery, Budleigh Salterton, and 12 pieces each by sculptors Margaret Lovell and Greta Berlin.

This is the second year the tourist attraction has put on the art weeks in its Steam Gallery. The three events run over a five week period. Organiser Hilary Arnold said: “We stage them to encourage people who wouldn’t normally come here.

“People don’t tend to think about visiting if they haven’t got children or grandchildren. The aim is to get more visitors during the quiet time when children have gone back to school.”

Photography and ceramics week begins on September 27.

The gallery is open Monday - Friday 10am - 5.30 pm, Saturday 10am - 1pm. There is free admission to the Pecorama gardens. Call (01297) 21542 or visit www.pecorama.info for more information.
