Phil’s painting displayed next to royal artwork
An Alfington artist has shared his delight after his work was exhibited with art painted by the Prince of Wales.
Phil Creek, who is president of the Otter Vale Art Society, was selected to showcase his painting at the Royal West of England Academy’s 164th Open Exhibition.
His oil painting Highway Home was chosen from hundreds of entries and was hung next to artwork by prolific artist Kurt Jackson and Prince Charles.
Phil said: “We knew that Prince Charles had work in the exhibition somewhere and it was incredible that it was next to mine.
“I think that was serendipity. It was a small painting, as was His Royal Highnesses. I was delighted my painting was hanging next to them.”

Highway Home was sold within the first week of the exhibition which ended on Sunday.
“It was nice to see the red sticker, it means someone loved it enough to want to live with it.” said Phil.

The Alfington resident studied at art college and worked as county art advisor in Devon until he retired in 2011.
The artist said the exhibition was a ‘further accolade’ after exhibiting at the Royal Society of Marine Artists in 2015.
Phil said: “For me, art is like eating food, it’s something I have to do.”
The artist has exhibited at galleries across East Devon and will next showcase his work in January the South West Academy Winter Show at The Thelma Hulbert Gallery.
