Archant

A vintage fire engine and vehicle rally came to Escot’s gardens on a steamingly hot day last weekend.

The main attraction at the estate was a 103-year-old St Giles Steam Pump, drawn by two Percheron horses, but the crowd enjoyed a display of dozens of vintage fire engines and steam engines, with music provided by the Devon and Somerset Fire & Rescue Ceremonial Unit.

The popular biennial event raises money for The Fire Fighters Charity, which runs recuperation centres for injured fire-fighters. Chief Fire Officer Lee Howell said of the old-fashioned vehicles at the event: “The service works hard to ensure that fire-fighters have the best vehicles and equipment to do their job, but we also value the proud history of our service and have pride in our past achievements.”
