An outbuilding will become a home and alterations will be made inside a listed Sidmouth shop if a planning application is approved.
The ‘Cottage’ behind Old Fore Street jewellery shop Rings of Gold was used as a home until 2006, when it was converted to retail storage, and the proposals would restore this former use.
The two storey single-bedroom property would be accessed via the shop and there would be no parking available, but it has a central location and ‘excellent’ access to amenities and public transport.
According to the plans, a small bay extension to the cottage would provide valuable additional floor space and make good use of a redundant part of the outside yard. It cannot be seen from Old Fore Street and the plans would not affect the exterior of the listed building, although an internal stud wall is proposed to its rear.
East Devon District Council will decide the fate of the application.
