A HIGH-flying Newton Poppleford teen is taking on the challenge of a sky dive in the name of charity.

Sammy Conibere, 18, will hurtle out of a plane from 15,000 feet next month to raise funds for the Exeter Blind School.

The trainee book-keeper, who works as an administrator for Exeter chartered accountants Haines Watts, took on the challenge after her employer announced the blind school is their 2010 charity of the year.

Sammy, of Badger Close, said: "When I found out a skydive had been arranged to raise money for the school I decided I would do it on behalf of the company.

"We visited the school and were given a tour and it was a real shock. It is a really good cause and most of the children have one-on-one lessons.

"It is only partially Government-funded so the school has to find the rest of the money and they have to work very hard to get it."

Sammy, who is studying a book-keeping course with Accountancy Plus Training, will take her leap of faith on July 10.

"I haven't done anything like this before so I've really thrown myself in the deep end!" she said.

"It hasn't really sunk in yet but it probably won't until I'm in the plane and then I'll realise what I'm doing."

Sammy has received lots of support from her friends, family and colleagues and has so far been pledged around 200.

She must raise a minimum of 395 but more than half of it will fund the actual skydive.

Sammy added: "I would love to get more than that so the majority of the money will go to the charity and not the jump."
