POLICE have warned Sidmouth residents to be wary of letting strangers into their homes after suspicious callers targeted one householder twice.
Suspected con-men claiming to work for British Telecom (BT) made separate visits to the same address this week and officers have been unable to corroborate whether they worked for the firm.
A Sidmouth police spokesperson warned residents: “Don’t allow people into your property unless you have checked their identification thoroughly. If you are unsure ring the company callers say they are from.
“Police are also happy to receive calls to check callers out if you are unsure of their identification. We were unable to do so in this case as we weren’t informed of the incident until the following day.”
