Chopper was scrambled

A POLICE helicopter hovered above Sidmouth homes when a manhunt was launched near Salcombe Regis on Tuesday morning.

Officers thought they were tracking a wanted person who’d been spotted in the area – but it transpired their target was the wrong person.

The helicopter was in the area from around 11am to 11.45am.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: “The helicopter was scrambled to locate a wanted person who had been seen - but it was not the wanted person.”
