Emergency services are continuing to advice motorists to only drive if ‘absolutely necessary’ following snow overnight. Police and partner agencies to have been working to ensure main routes remain open and safe after snow fell across Devon and Cornwall yesterday and overnight.

Resource deployment officer Lisa Burnett shared a video travelling from Ottery to Exeter this morning (Monday).

The RDO tweeted: “This is currently the A30 between Ottery and Exeter. Please avoid driving if you can unless an absolute emergency.”

A police spokeswoman said yesterday (Sunday): “We are concerned about rush hour traffic tomorrow and would advise the public to drive to the conditions of the road, slow down, keep your distance, and keep an eye on weather reports before you set off.

“If you have to travel, carry additional warm clothing/footwear, food, drink, a charged mobile phone, and ensure your vehicle has a full tank of fuel.”

Councillor Stuart Hughes has said the roads remain ‘treacherous’ and challenging in many places and urged motorists to delay their journey.

East Devon District Council also announced its recycling and waste collections are suspended as the weather has made the roads impassable for its heavy collection vehicles.
