Residents in the Ottery St Mary area are being advised to exercise caution when answering the door after police received a report of a ‘persistent’ cold caller knocking on doors.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: “Residents are asked to exercise caution when answering the door to unexpected callers.

“The caller was reported as not speaking English and in possession of a card offering merchandise and being persistent.

“Items purchased at the door can often be more expensive.

“Do not feel pressured into buying items you do not need, say ‘no thank you’ and close your door.”
