A man is trying to prove the provenance of a postcard of Sidmouth and is putting out a call for assistance in identifying a ship.

John Arnold came across the artefact, a message from his grandmother about her arrival in the town, when raking through some old family papers.

It was sent to his mother, then a pupil at a convent in Tunbridge Wells, but he is unable to say exactly when as the postmark omits the last two years of the dispatch year.

John believes the original SS Sidmouth was torpedoed in 1916, but that the ship pictured could be its successor.
