Praise for Sidmouth St John Ambulance course
Wednesday July 30- PRAISE voiced over impact of a ground-breaking St John Ambulance course aimed at carers in East Devon.
PRAISE has been voiced for the impact of a ground-breaking Sidmouth course aimed at carers in the area.
The St John Ambulance Lifeline course gave local carers who look after ill or disabled relatives the opportunity to learn practical tips and meet other carers over four sessions at St John Hall last month.
Marian Tewkesbury, from Ottery St Mary, who cares for her husband, said: "It is good to feel I am not alone in this. I now know a group of 12 people who are in the same position as me, who understand the pressures and go through the same difficulties day after day."
St John's Ambulance says that work facing carers can be lonely and physically relentless with overwhelming responsibilities being mentally crippling.

The first aid charity added that the chance to talk to other carers as well as gain tips on handling, first aid and stress management were priceless. It plans to host another course in Sidmouth, at St John Hall, on November 6,13,20 and 27.
Mrs Tewkesbury said: "No one understands the position we are in as well as another carer does. I always look forward to these days because they make me feel so much more part of the community.
