A LITTLE donkey, which was born so premature she couldn't even walk, has progressed by leaps and bounds thanks to staff at Sidmouth's Donkey Sanctuary.
Aptly named Zena was found by staff curled up in a stable after her birth three weeks ago.
She was very ill and her back legs were not working properly.
Staff worked around the clock to help Zena stand up and reach her mum's udder for milk, and now the young donkey is strong enough to walk by herself.
Zena is in the sanctuary's special 'new arrivals' unit, which is not open to visitors, as she still needs to undergo further treatment.
A spokesperson for the Donkey Sanctuary said: "In the next week Zena may need an extension on one of her hind hooves to allow the tendon to come down slowly as she is still not fully weight bearing.
