PUPILS at the West of England School and College for young people with little or no sight have a pressing engagement next week - to create their own apple drink.

A touring theatre company will visit the school in Exeter on Monday, October 6, bringing with them a gigantic eight-foot apple press.

Pupils will get a chance to feed the machine with apples to create their own fruit drink and Tesco's has donated apples to the school to add to the apple harvest celebration.

The Devon-based Common Players are touring the West Country with the press in a project called Cider with Roadies.

The idea is to give people the chance to bring along their own apples, learn about identifying them, press them, then taste the juice.

Music teacher Deborah Hamilton organised the visit as part of the school's harvest celebrations.

She said: "For our visually impaired and blind pupils being able to feel the apples, actually get involved in the juicing and taste the product of their efforts, will really help to bring the concept of harvest to life in a tactile way.
