OVERTURNED: Firefighters from Sidmouth raced to the scene of an accident in which a car ended up on its roof in Newton Poppleford.

The appliance was mobilised Badger Close at 5.10pm last Thursday, January 17.

On arrival the crew found that no-one was trapped and used small tools to make the vehicle safe.

METALS SCAM: Police are warning Sidmouth residents about a national scam in which cold callers trick the elderly into investing in bogus rare earth metals.

Officers say contact is usually made by telephone and, following pressurised selling, considerable amounts of personal savings are deposited into seemingly bona fide company bank accounts in the hope of a future substantial return - which never materialises.

Detective Sergeant Mark Newnham said: “I would urge anyone who is contacted out of the blue regarding such investments to think very carefully.”
