Green-fingered pupils at Sidbury Primary School have been rewarded for their hard work with awards in a gardening competition organised by the Rotary Club of Sidmouth.
The competition saw seven prizes presented to primary schools in the Sidmouth and Seaton area, with youngsters from Sidbury bagging awards for the most sustainable plot and the fattest carrot.
The school’s outdoor area was transformed over two days in November by pupils and parents, and now includes a vegetable patch, seating area and even a ‘bug hotel’.
And the plot, which has been landscaped to resemble the sun, is now being used to grow carrots, potatoes, peas and rhubarb, which parents can purchase for a small fee.
Judges made their decision based on the environmental credentials of the garden, its general appearance and level of upkeep and the variety and condition of produce grown.
