Archant

More than 92,000 expected to have descended on the event at Westpoint.

DEVON County Show hit new heights with three days packed full of entertainment, competition and business, say organisers.

A record attendance of more than 92,000 is expected to have descended on the event at Westpoint.

“It has been absolutely marvellous,” said show secretary Ollie Allen. “We’ve brought together the best Devon has to offer - rural, agricultural, commercial and the voluntary sector – and formed a huge shop window for life in the Westcountry.”

Overflow car parks at the event had to be opened on the first and second days as up to 10,000 vehicles flocked to Westpoint.

Big numbers through the gates were reflected in a healthy boost to the businesses exhibiting at the show - with trade stand holders reporting a roaring trade.

Crowds were drawn by more than 7,000 animals on display ranging from great bulls to furry guinea pigs to brightly coloured poultry and tiny bees.

Rubbing shoulders with a host of traditional country pursuits were plenty of more modern entertainments including a daredevil motorcycle display team and a group of powered parachutists. Food and drink was also on offer.
