WITH people receiving Christmas gifts of mobile phones, a cancer charity has urged Sidmouth residents to recycle old ones to help raise funds.
WITH people receiving Christmas gifts of mobile phones, a cancer charity has urged Sidmouth residents to recycle old ones to help raise funds.
The average person has, according to statistics, three unused mobile phones.
World Cancer Research Fund wants them to send for recycling and will earn £3.50 for each one sent.
Paul Fretwell, senior fundraising manager for the charity said: "Phones can be recycled in all sorts of ways.
"The plastic from the case can be melted down to make road traffic cones or the phone can be reused in developing countries.
"For every mobile phone successfully recycled, £3.50 will be donated to WCRF to help us continue with our valuable cancer prevention work."
In 2008 WCRF invested more than £25,000 towards cancer research and education programmes as a result of people recycling their phones.
