At around 8.30am, on Wednesday, June 13, Jon Bowman, posted a picture of a shiny Red Arrows Hawk outside the airport on the Exmouth Community UK Facebook page.

He wrote: “This little beautiful thing is on show outside airport this morning.”

There was some speculation among keyboard commenters as to why the aircraft was there.

But a spokesman has now revealed its presence is part of a weekend of celebrations being held at the airport, for the nationwide RAF100 centenary.

This is to mark the airport’s long association with the RAF.

From this Friday, June 15, until Sunday, June 17, the airport will host an interactive showcase from the RAF and static displays.

The spokesman said these would include the ‘iconic’ former Red Arrows Hawk aircraft which is now on display at the front of the terminal building.

The aircraft arrived on Tuesday, June 12 and will be in place for two weeks.
