A refurbishment of the day case unit at Sidmouth Victoria Hospital will see the service shut for six weeks from Monday (January 27).

The unit is being redecorated and will be enhanced by a new, purpose-built store room, new flooring and improved access.

It will be closed temporarily until March 10 while the work takes place.

A spokesman for the Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust, which runs the hospital, said all patients affected have been informed.

He added that the majority of day case surgery will instead be provided at nearby community hospitals. The upgrade of the unit is part of the £1.2million, ‘phase five’, redevelopment of the hospital which is due to be completed by the summer.
