People wanting to pay tribute to the country’s fallen soldiers have been invited to show their respects during Remembrance Day weekend.

A service to mark Armistice Day will be held by the Sidmouth Royal British Legion (RBL) in the town centre tomorrow (Saturday).

Those wanting to attend have been asked to meet in the Market Square at 10.40am ready for a short parade to the war memorial in Church Street and a service at 10.55am.

A rocket will be fired and the Last Post sounded before a two minute silence and second rocket, which will be followed by the playing of the Reveille.

The town band will also be leading a Remembrance Sunday parade on November 12.

They will meet outside Co-op, in the High Street, at 10.20am ready for a 10.30am start.

A service will be held at the memorial with the Last Post being played at 11am before the start of a two minute silence and the laying of the wreath.

A service will also be held inside the Parish Church.

Sidford and Sidbury: There will be a short service and a laying of the wreath at St Peter’s Church in Sidford on Remembrance Sunday, from 9.30am.

This will be followed by a laying of the wreath at Sidbury War Memorial at 10.45am and an Armistice service at St Giles Church, Sidbury, at 11am.

The Sidford and Sidbury branch of the RBL will then hold a remembrance lunch at Sidbury Village Hall.

Beer: The Royal British Legion will be meeting those wanting to pay their respect at the village memorial for a two minute silence at 11am tomorrow (Saturday).

A service and laying of the wreath will also be held on Remembrance Sunday at the memorial at St Michael’s Church from 10.30am. This will be followed by a church service.

Ottery: A procession from the Ridgeway will begin at 10am, followed by a Remembrance Sunday Service at St Mary’s Church from 10.30am on November 12.

Newton Poppleford: A service will be held at St Luke’s Church from 9.30am, ready for a formal act of remembrance and wreath laying at the village war memorial at about 10.20am.
