Residents asked to join big Sidmouth beach clean
PUBLISHED: 11:02 10 February 2017
The Sidcombers return for a new season of beach cleaning tomorrow (Saturday) and are looking for volunteers to join them.
Since launching four years ago, the group has picked up three double-decker buses worth of timber, as well as debris and rubbish.
Lynette Talbot, from the group, said: “We have had cleaners as young as three helping for a couple of hours and the oldest have been in their late 80s.”
The Sidcombers have also been recognised as ‘outstanding’ in the Royal Horticultural Society’s In Your Neighbourhood scheme for the past three years.
The first clean-up will begin at 1.30pm tomorrow until 3.30pm, weather permitting. Volunteers are asked to meet at the west end of the promenade, near the bus shelters.
All are welcome and are asked to wear suitable clothing and gloves and take a bucket. Plastic bags and refreshments will be provided.
The clean-ups take place every fortnight, with the next date set for Saturday, February 25, from 1pm to 3pm. Times subject to change due to tide times.
