MORE than 100 people filled West Hill village Hall last Friday to hear heated debate over the future of the village.

The packed venue was enlightened over East Devon District Council’s (EDDC) vision for the region for the next 15 years.

Residents and councillors told a senior EDDC policy planner they were concerned about the “broad brush” ambiguity of proposals, which treat West Hill and Budleigh Salterton the same, and an apparent unwillingness of the authority to listen to what local people want. They also fear the creation of a new “flexible built-up area boundary” and other factors could see projected figures of up to 50 new homes for the village increased. Residents rallied fellow villagers to speak out to ensure their voice is heard. West Hill Residents’ Association are holding a further public meeting at 7pm on Friday, October 29.
