Newton Poppleford residents will have the chance to vote on how community cash will be spent at a parish council meeting next week.

The grant is part of Section 106, where money is provided from various developers to help further and benefit communities.

Villagers were asked last year what sporting equipment they would like the money, near to £3,500, to be spent on.

Two ideas – outdoor gym equipment and the installation of safety netting around the village’s children’s play area – were thought up by residents.

They will now decide on what idea becomes a reality first through the cash injection.

Councillor Bill Phillips said the safety netting idea has received ‘overwhelming support’ from villagers, while the gym equipment has only garnered a lukewarm response. Mr Phillips, who is also the village’s 106 monies manager, said: “I have the quotes for the safety netting. The only thing we do not know is what the delivery time on it is.”

He added that if the votes were taken in favour of the netting, he would work to get it installed promptly. Votes will be taken at the village’s parish meeting on Monday (April 28). The meeting starts at 8pm in the village hall.
