Residents urge homes plan website review
THE version of a planning application for 56 homes in Tipton St John on the district council’s website has information missing and duplicated, claim residents.
Devonshire Homes’ plan for land off Otter Close includes 22 affordable homes and the closure of a slip road access to the village in favour of a footpath from the site.
It appears on the planning section of East Devon District Council’s website, but within the design and access statement the access part is missing and pages 56-75 are duplicates of pages 1-11. And the transport statement and site waste management plan are missing.
Tipton resident John Harding said: “We are not criticising Devonshire Homes in any way, they have provided the information, but EDDC haven’t put it up correctly. I’m concerned because we’ve only got a short period of time to comment.”
The deadline for residents’ comments is January 11, and Mr Harding is hoping the council will be flexible about this, given the apparent technical issues.
“The deadline should be pushed back to three weeks after the correct information is up there, to give people the standard consultation period,” he said.
An EDDC spokesman said the council wasn’t aware of any errors in the document but, after the Christmas holiday, officers will check it for any errors or omissions.

He said: “If there are errors that make a material difference to the ability of people to comment, then consideration will be given to flexibility about the closing date.”
While residents realise a need for new homes in the village, they say this development is too large.
“It will permanently change the character of the village and stretch its infrastructure to the limit,” said residents’ association chairman Margaret Hutchesson.
A drop-in session about the plan is scheduled for January 6, 10.30am to 6pm, in Tipton Community Hall.
