HAVING discovered the joys of being a grandparent, Shirley Mortimore retired this week after 18 years of working for Fields of Sidmouth to spend more time with her family.
Shirley's job as supervisor of Monday's Child, Market Place, will be taken over by Lisa Thwaites, who has worked in the shop for the past three years.
Shirley, who wants to spend more time with her family, will be recognised by many in the town, having run her own business, Little Characters, selling children's wear.
"I had the business for 10 years in Church Street, then approached Fields which was hoping to start a children's wear department and they asked me to manage it," said Shirley, who lives with husband Ken in Sidford.
At first the department was in the main shop where its shoe department now is.
"It has been lovely working with little children's clothes and things, but I have decided to retire due to family commitments," said Shirley, who will be missed by colleagues and customers, having established relationships with locals and visitors during her years of service.
She said: "I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here, and seen many children return with their parents as they have grown up.
"I am sure however, that Lisa will continue to provide the service that is expected at Monday's Child, particularly for our loyal regular customers," said Shirley.
The shop sells clothing and Clarks shoes for children up to the age of eight.
