Sidmouth now only has one police constable after force bosses reviewed neighbourhood policing levels in East Devon.

Sergeant Andy Squires told town councillors in April PC Simon Blyth would be replaced when he retired but said discussions were ongoing.

Sidmouth now has one police constable, Steve Lee – in line with Seaton, Honiton and Axminster – supported by three PCSOs.

Sgt Squires said: “The other three towns had been successfully running with one neighbourhood beat manager for some time – Sidmouth was always the exception with two. Now we have merely fallen in line with the others.

“Sidmouth has three PCSOs and there are no plans that I am aware of to reduce that, however, it is widely known that overall PCSOs will be reducing across our force over the next three years, but no decisions have been made yet as to where the cuts will be.”
