ANOTHER purse snatch in Sidmouth has prompted the police to issue a warning to vulnerable targets.

A dark blue leather purse, containing cash and bank cards, was stolen from an elderly woman's bag at around 1pm on Monday in the vicinity of Trumps on Fore Street.

This is the second purse snatch in as many weeks and police are worried that purse snatchers are back in the area.

Sergeant Andy Turner, of Sidmouth Police, said: "I'm very concerned this is the start of another series of bag thefts. Last year a number of residents were victims of crime and a number of people were arrested and charged with the offences."

He warned people to make sure their bags are secure, not to carry too much cash around and if pin numbers for credit cards can not be remembered, to disguise them in a telephone number.

Sergeant Turner added: "We have had great success with the help of the public.

"We are asking people to remain vigilant and if someone is acting suspicious ring 999 and we will check them out. We don't want a repeat of last year's crimes."

Anybody with information relating to the purse snatches should contact Sidmouth Police on 08452 777444.
