Planning bosses have approved revised plans for Sidmouth’s former scout hut that will see a first floor installed with obscured roof lights.
East Devon District Council’s development management committee also backed proposals to move the entrance to the side and the addition of a small extension.
The applicants already had planning consent to convert the Manor Road property into a home.
Concerns had been raised by neighbouring residents, as well as ward members Matt Booth and Cathy Gardner, about the first-floor windows overlooking Fortfield Terrace.
But Councillor Mike Howe told last week’s meeting: “The three windows are in existence and aren’t part of the application – they’re outside our remit.”
The application was approved on the condition the roof lights are fixed shut and obscure-glazed below a height of 1.75 metres. The applicants will also have to give details of a privacy screen on the eastern edge of the raised terrace.
The timber property was designed by renowned Sidmouth architect RW Sampson and used by the 1st Sid Vale Scouts for a century before its sale last year.
