A FolkWeek musician has delighted crowds with sounds from South Africa on his hand made oil-can electric ukuleles.
Ric Thorpe, from Torquay, has drawn in crowds along the seafront with the unique instruments which he makes from scratch.
Originally from South Africa, the musician could not find anything like it when he moved to the UK so began making them himself.
Since starting his business five years ago, he has made nearly 100 oil can ukuleles which have proven popular with other musicians.
For every one he sells, Ric donates £10 to Instruments for Africa which repairs instruments and donates them to schools for children to learn to play.
Ric said: “You see musicians make things out of anything including oil cans.
You could not find anything so I had to make it myself and take them to music festivals. It is the African way to make things out of whatever you can find and not waste anything.
