Road visibility warning over clock change
Sidmouth motorists and pedestrians awareness hope
HIGHWAYS chiefs hope to raise awareness of the importance of being clearly visible on roads in the Sidmouth area when the clocks go back on Sunday (October 30).
Pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists and horse riders are being reminded to wear reflective and fluorescent clothing as the winter nights draw in.
Drivers are also being urged to be cautious and look out for all other road users, especially at night and in conditions with limited visibility. Eleven pedestrians were seriously injured in Devon between October and December last year. One cyclist was killed and nine seriously injured.
Interactive signs around the county will carry messages urging drivers to look out for motorcycle riders.

Councillor Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council cabinet member for highways and transportation, said: “Children are particularly vulnerable on our roads and motorists can do their bit by taking extra care in watching out for them. Bikers and cyclists are also difficult to spot, simply because of their small physical size, so we would encourage drivers to take a second look for them.”
