Romans invade Sidmouth
ROMANS and Celts clashed once again at St Nicholas Junior School, during a two-day invasion by Claudius Maximus.
ROMANS and Celts clashed once again at St Nicholas Junior School, during a two-day invasion by Claudius Maximus.
For the second year running, the school invited Peter Ashmore to give Year Five pupils a taste of what life as a Roman soldier would be like.
Year Head Nick Kitchen said: "The topic this term is life in Roman Britain and Peter brings it to life for them.
"They have been making Roman shields and doing research work on what it was like to be in the army."
Peter ran two workshops on Wednesday and yesterday (Thursday) to accommodate all in the year group.
After teaching them Latin terms for their armour and how to drill, he chose some to form his Roman army, with the rest joining the barbarian Celts led by Boudicca (Jacky Poole).
