Rotary Club of Sidmouth celebrate young gardeners

Green-fingered primary school pupils impressed judges in an annual gardening competition.
The Rotary Club of Sidmouth contest saw eight schools enter – with Sidbury, Tipton St John, Branscombe and Seaton winning prizes.
Tipton was crowned the winner of the best overall garden with its flower growing project. Sidbury pupils impressed judges with their bug hotel and compost beds to win the most environmentally aware garden accolade. They also scooped the prize for the ‘fastest carrot’. Branscombe had the most improved garden, after pupils turned an old sandpit into a vegetable plot. Seaton pupils managed to fight off slugs to produce the best vegetable plot and the largest beetroot and runner bean. The prizes, sponsored by Wyevale garden centre, were presented at the Anchor Inn, Sidmouth, by Councillor Jeff Turner.
