Sidmouth Rotary focus on supporting community says new president David

NEW president of Sidmouth Rotary Club is Sidmothian David Burgoyne.

He takes over from David Mason, who handed him the responsibility and chain of office last week, after thanking members for the enjoyable year he had undertaken in office.

David, 80, has been a Rotarian since 1974, originally in Exeter, and with Sidmouth for the past five years.

During his year in office the club will continue to offer its service to the community, “taking the lonely, frail and elderly in mini buses from Sidmouth Voluntary Services on 10 outings during the year, such as Bicton Gardens and the Manor Pavilion Theatre,” he said.

There will be youth opportunities during his term of office based around the Arches Café and David hopes October’s Swimathon will raise similar amounts as the £10,000 it made last year.

“There will be a lot of focus supporting people in need. We try to respond to requests for grants by people in trouble or who need to try to raise money to give them help internationally, such as Shelterbox,” said David.
