Rotters to cover skip gap in Ottery
The Otter Rotters are going to step in to fill the gap left by the removal of the rural skip service by Devon County Council.
EDDC has signed a partnership agreement with the community group, who specialise in collecting and processing garden waste, to offer a greener option for Ottery gardeners disposing of their garden waste.
The monthly skip service at the Land of Canaan ends this month, making the nearest recycling centre for Ottery residents at the already very busy Wood’s Farm on the Sidmouth Road. Instead locals can now sign up with Otter Rotters for a regular fortnightly collection service at a small charge.
The agreement with EDDC means that Otter Rotters will receive additional funding for their operation, as the council tries to contribute towards increasing recycling and reducing landfill.
The group already collects thousands of tonnes of garden waste across East Devon every year and have acquired two new vehicles to help cater for the additional collections from residents affected by the closure the skip at the Land of Canaan.
