THE man planning to raise 30,000 in sponsorship by rowing 12,000 miles across the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, will row from his Topsham home to Sidmouth on Sunday to promote his forthcoming challenge.

David Brooks hopes to raise 10,000 each for three charities, including Sidmouth Lifeboat, during his journey in November, and will be guest of honour at the charity's open day on Sunday, which will give the public the chance to see around the newly-extended lifeboat station.

Crew on The Pride of Sidmouth will escort him to shore at around noon, weather permitting.

Freddy Wedderburn, a trustee of Sidmouth Lifeboat, said: "Visitors are welcome to inspect the new extension between 10.30am and 4.30pm, and see it fully equipped with the latest operational, training and communications facilities.
