Branscombe Airfield is hosting a weekend of sport and music to raise money for charity ‘Wooden Spoon’.

Owners David and Naomi Hayman are putting on the inaugural Devon Rugby 7s competition in July, and 70s icon Marcia Barrett of ‘Boney M’ is playing live.

The event has the backing of rugby governing body the RFU, and will be opened by England world cup winner Jason Leonard. He said: “I was delighted to give my support for this fantastic event and I hope that David and Naomi raise a considerable amount of money for the Wooden Spoon.”

On Saturday, July 16 Marcia Barrett, who sold 50 million records with her band Boney M, will be flying in to the airfield from Berlin to perform. She said: “I have played in major venues throughout the world but playing at a village airfield is a first for me.”

The Hayman’s are looking for 32 teams from around the country to enter the rugby tournament over the weekend of July 16 and 17, which has more than �2,000 in prizes up for grabs. The money raised will go to disadvantaged children through the work of Wooden Spoon.
