Former nun Ann Evans, 76, hopes to raise £500 by completing a four mile course between Beer and Branscombe.

A 76-year-old former nun will be running along the coastal paths of Beer and Branscombe to raise money for an educational film charity.

Ann Evans chose the route for her four-mile ‘walk-run’ to increase awareness of Purple Field Productions (PFP) and hopes to encourage runners and walkers of all levels to join her.

The Chardstock resident spent much of her life in Tanzania, working as a teacher, nurse and a nun, as well as founding the charity Intercare to provide education for African nuns.

Ann took up running at the age of 70 to help fundraise for the Sunseed Tanzania Trust, but is pulling on her running shoes for the Illminster-based project to help its work producing humanitarian videos. The grandmother of two said: “It’s wonderful, they go to all these places to make films. They’re not just doing it for educational reasons, they are also training people.”

She met Elspeth Waldie, the founder of PFP, when she was leading a Gregorian Chanting course.

Ann suffered a setback earlier this year after cracking her ankle. Following six weeks of recovery, she is ready for the race and hopes to raise £500 for the charity. She said: “You can park your car in the car park and then run to Branscombe, stop for a cup of tea and then run back again. “Some will run along the beach or along the footpath or the way they came. It’s four miles, but it’s manageable if people want to walk that. It’s to make the charity better known.”

Interested runners wanting to join Ann should contact PFP to receive a purple T-shirt to promote the charity during the event.

A PFP spokesman said: “The money Ann raises will go to support PFP in making new films to help people through the aftermath of the Ebola epidemic in Sierra Leone. PFP needs every penny you can spare. Do support this wonderful woman’s run for a wonderful cause.”

Ann will begin her run at 10am at Beer Head car park on Saturday, May 21. To donate, visit http://www.everyclick.com/pfprun
