WITH the current interest in Robert William Sampson, the architect who changed the face of Sidmouth, a Discover Sampson weekend at one of Sidmouth's hotels, is being organised for next year.
Sampson, who died in 1950, designed many of the town's houses, hotels and even Sidmouth Golf Club's club house.
After the publication of her booklet Sampson's Sidmouth and her recently exhibition at Kennaway House, Sylvia Brownlee has stirred up interest in the architect's work.
The weekend event, from March 5-8, celebrates his birthday (March 7) and will include speakers and a tour of Sampson's houses.
It will be held at the Kingswood Hotel, a Sampson-designed hotel, and more details are available from Sylvia at sylvia.brownlee@me.com.
"Of course Sidmouth residents are welcome to come, but they will have to book into the Kingswood for the weekend," she said.
Sylvia is also planning to create a Sampson Society. Details will soon be available at www.rwsampson.com.
