Residents are being asked once again to dig out their jumble as Ottery Scouts gear up for the giant annual sale.

Collections around the town will take place a week next Monday and Tuesday, with a van in West Hill also on hand for donations.

This year the Jumble Sale will be raising money for the scout’s major project, a £90,000 renovation of the group’s headquarters in Winters Lane.

Split over two weeks, the massive sale needs people in Ottery to donate bric-a-brac, furniture, electrical items, clothes, textiles and homeware, as well as books, CDs and DVDs.

Organiser Mary Moore said she hopes the local community can dig deep and help the scout group upgrade its facilities and accommodate more young people from the town.

The sale itself takes place on Saturday, January 26 in the Institute and the Old Boys’ School opposite, from 1pm.

There is an auction of some of the best items, and a separate book sale in Coleridge Pre-School from 11am.

The following Saturday is the second part of the sale.

The collections take place on Monday, January 21 n Tuesday, January 22, and the collection van will be in McColl’s car park in West Hill on Saturday, January 19.
