Fine weather, a record number of helpers and even a plug on BBC Radio Devon all helped to make this year’s scout’s jumble sale a success.
Saturday’s mammoth sale saw books, toys and furniture on offer at three locations in Ottery st Mary, with stalls manned by youngsters of all ages from the 1st Ottery Scout Group.
All profits from the event will go towards funding extension work on the scout centre, and group scout leader John Green said the takings from the first of this year’s sales were roughly the same as the record collection in 2013.
“The weather certainly helped and we had some good crowds queuing ready for the off at 1.30pm,” said John. “We had a record turnout of parent helpers as well as great representation of uniformed young people.”
“But this coming second weekend will be the key to the overall total,” he added.
