A final decision on seafront street trading in Sidmouth will have to wait - after district councillors took note of Herald-assisted consultation.
Two-thirds of 161 public correspondents spoke out against street trading at any time - but EDDC officers have recommended temporary trading rights.
One option available to the authority will be a designation order making The Esplanade a "consent street", allowing temporary trading and opening up potential for stalls and performers in the road during the Folk Festival, boosting trade during the event.
