Sid Valley Rotarians seek nominations for third annual Young Citizen of the Year award

ONCE again the hunt is on for the Sid Valley Young Citizen of the Year.

This is the third year Sid Valley Rotary Club, with sponsorship from the Sidmouth Herald, has run the award.

There will be cash prizes for the winners of both categories – 14 years and under and for those aged 15 to 21.

Last year, Sidmouth scout Sarah Hill from Malden Road, Sidmouth, was nominated by group scout leader Brian Manwaring for the title and won. She is pictured receiving the award.

John Stephens, chairman of Sid Valley Rotary’s community and vocational committee, said: “We are looking for young people who have made an outstanding contribution to the community, within the Sidmouth area.

“We are asking parents, friends, teachers or youth leaders to put forward candidates who they feel have, in some way, made a difference to the lives of those around them.

“This could be by supporting a charity, helping the elderly, putting outstanding effort into a club or society, or being a carer at home.”

He said there were many young people whose contributions in the community go largely unseen and unrewarded, which was why Rotarians were encouraging relatives and friends, teachers and youth leaders to put forward names.

Deadline for nominations is Tuesday, November 15 and all shortlisted nominees will be invited to an awards ceremony in early December.

*Nomination forms can be found in Friday’s issue of the Sidmouth Herald.
