A World War Two veteran was showered with cards, including a message from the Queen, to mark his 106th birthday.
Joe Daniels, formerly of Lymebourne Park, Sidmouth, celebrated the milestone on Monday with servicemen and members of the Royal British Legion (RBL).
Joe, originally from London, served in the Royal Corp of Signallers, during World War Two and is now lives at a care home in Seaton.
Dave O’Connor, chairman of Sidmouth’s RBL branch, said: “He was born in 1912 in London and can still remember it being bombed - he can still remember that and the destruction it caused. He was working in telecommunications and he was exempt from being called up for national service. He went into the Royal Signallers and deployed into the Middle East and also Europe. He continued his work with the telecommunications industry until he retired.”
