FRIENDS who organised a sell-out 80's disco have raised £600 for Sidmouth Lifeboat.

Pippa Lea and friend Amy held the fundraiser at The Blue Ball, Sidford, and it was such a success they have been asked to make it an annual event.

Pippa said: "Many people seized the opportunity to don 80's gear for the optional fancy dress, with DJ Glenn judging Slash from Guns n Roses to be the most impressive."

She said a lyrics quiz, which appeared to have most people completely stumped, was won by Liz White from Feniton with an "impressive" score of nine out of 20.

Amy and Pippa presented the cheque to lifeboat crew during a training session and are pictured with Phil Sheppard, Simon Priestly, Andy Downham and trustee Freddie Wedderburn.

"We would like to thank Roger Newton and his staff at the Blue Ball for all their help and support in making the evening so successful and providing us with an amazing buffet and beautifully decorated room," said Pippa.

She also thanked DJ Glenn from Sounds Familiar, Tracy at Sidford Print and Design for the tickets and posters and Roger at Sidford Post Office and Sandra and Jim at Coles Cards and News for selling the tickets.

Prizes were donated by Exeter Chiefs, Exeter City Football Club, Woodlands, Bicton Park, Pecorama, Paignton Zoo, Whoops a Daisy, Flo and Us, Roly's Fudge Pantry, Spar at Sidford, Lloyds Chemist, Sidford, Highlights Hair Salon, The Salty Monk, The Anchor Inn and The Cat and Fiddle.
